How To Set Up Morphing RSS Feeds

Morphing RSS Feeds

So you want to bolster your post frequency and depth by plugging in some MorphFeeds RSS?  No problem.  While there are various ways to accomplish this one of the most common methods is via a free Wordpress plugin called FeedWordPress.

FeedWordpress is an easy to use RSS aggregator that will automatically update your blog using RSS feeds provided by your sponsor.  Here's a quick-start guide to installing and utilizing FWP on your WordPress blogs:

Installation

1) For the latest versions of Wordpress click from the navbar of your admin area:   Plugins > Add New
2) Type "feedwordpress" in the search box.
3) Click Install, then Install Now
4) Hostname: Usually "localhost" works fine.  (If not, use the FTP domain or IP address provided by your host to access this domain).  Enter your FTP username and password then click Proceed.

The installation will process and if it was successful select "Activate Plugin".  If it was not successful you should address the error messages with your host and try again.

Configuring FeedWordPress To Pull From MorphFeeds RSS

Now you should see in your admin navbar a new box titled 'Syndication'.  Select it then select 'Settings'.

Settings (Quick Start):

Syndicated Link Category: (Select the category you wish your imported posts to be assigned by default)
Check for feeds ready to be polled for updates: (Click the pulldown and select 'Automatically' and any interval you wish.  I recommend every 4-6 hours)
Time limit on updates: (This is generally not necessary, leave it alone)
Feed Information: UN-check all 3 boxes here.  With morphing RSS feeds this could cause issues with missing pages, post slugs and even leave your content over-unique, too often which may not sit well with the search engines especially if your selected feed update frequency is fast.

Syndicated Posts (Quick Start):

Generally the only thing you should change for SEO purposes is the "Permalinks point to" pulldown.  Set it to "this website" so the post titles link in to your blog.  Some prefer to have it link to the original website in an attempt to get traffic to the sponsor as soon as possible.  I prefer to go for the soft sell, it's really up to you.

The rest of the configuration area is pretty self explanatory.  Add some good default tags with your target keywords in them.  Everything else I just leave alone down here.

When you're finished select "Save Changes"

Syndication

Now the easy part!  Adding the RSS feeds!  Select Syndication in the navbar, then in the box labeled "Add new source:", paste your RSS feed URL.  Confirm that it looks OK and voila!

All feeds that you add here will be processed in accordance with the Settings you set earlier.

Sit back, relax.  Watch FeedWordPress do all the work for you.  I recommend about a 50/50 mix of original, handmade posts mixed with some very powerful MorphFeeds RSS as the idea combination to grow your blogs with the utmost efficiency.
